Fireplace maker Hearth & Home Technologies Inc. has introduced a new vertical fireplace under its Heat-N-Glo(R) brand. According to the company, the Cyclone(R) is the first appliance to use fire as a design element.

The Cyclone features a 360-degree view of the fire by its concentric glass design. According to the company, fire is created by a whirling flame that generates turbulence outside the outer ring of the cylinder. As the flame rises through the center, the air twists it, causing a tornado-like effect.

"The Cyclone creates an entirely new design product category and takes an amazing step forward harnessing fire as a design element," Susan Hilt-Lagos, brand manager for Heat-N-Glo, said. "Architects and builders can capture the allure of fire in virtually any architectural application."

The company says the unit is available as a free-standing glass cylinder or as a wall mount with a black nickel frame and either a brushed nickel or brushed copper front. The wall-mount option also features a polished metal black that the company says creates a mirrored effect with the flame.

According to Heat-N-Glo, the unit installs easily and operates through a standard RC-Smart remote control. In addition, the Cyclone uses natural gas and vents exhaust outside, while reportedly producing only half the heat of a traditional gas fireplace.

The free-standing model is available at Heat-N-Glo dealers and distributors for U.S. $3,499, while the wall-mount system retails for $7,999.
