Lowe’s Hints At Overseas Expansion Oct 22, 2004

U.S. home improvement-retailer Lowe’s is said to be contemplating store growth outside the U.S., with a potential move into the $15 billion home improvement market in Mexico, according to Deutsche Bank analyst Michael Baker.

Baker said Lowe’s hinted of its international strategy during a recent meeting with the retail’s executives in Europe.

Mr. Baker went on to say that because Lowe’s core is its distribution network it makes more sense that the retailer would move across the border into Mexico than overseas.

Lowe’s spokeswoman Jennifer Smith said the chain has made no announcements, except that the retailer plans 310 stores domestically in the next two years. “Lowe’s is evaluating all opportunities around the world,” she said. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
