Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is notifying consumers and merchandisers that shop radios manufactured by China’s Changzhou Master Electric Appliance Company bear counterfeit UL Listing Marks, do not meet UL safety requirements, and therefore, may pose a fire hazard to users.

Approximately 2,600 units of Shop and Job Site Radios, Model MYWR-1A, Rated 120 V, 1.0 A, 60 Hz that were manufactured between July and October 2003, are currently being sold in the U.S. and Canada. The product offers a feature that allows consumers to use batteries or a battery pack similar to those used in portable power tools. Using the battery pack with this product has been determined to cause a potential fire hazard, UL said.

The packaging identifies the product as a “Shop and Job Site Radio,” and may also be marked with the brand name, “NIKOTA.” An unauthorized UL, cUL or cULus Listing Mark appears on the product. The use of these Listing Marks is not authorized for this product. The product is not considered Listed by UL, or any of its affiliates.

UL encourages consumers to immediately discontinue use of this product, contact the manufacturer, or return it to the place of purchase. Contact information for the manufacturer is:
