White-Westinghouse Returns to Turkish Market Oct 18, 2004

Appliance maker White-Westinghouse announced that it is returning to the Turkish market after leaving 3 years ago, due to economic crisis.

The firm, which claims to have brought the first air-conditioner to Turkey 25 years ago, split off from its Turkish representative, Unimeks, in 2001. White-Westinghouse says the increase in consumer purchasing power combined with development in the Turkish economy during the last 2 years is what has allowed it to re-enter the market.

White-Westinghouse said air-conditioners and refrigerators will be among the first durable appliances to be put on the market in 2005. The company said it aims to import air-conditioners, dishwashers, washing machines, and microwave ovens.

In addition, the company said it has no plans to leave Turkey again and its next investments will be related to production. (Zaman Online)
