Earls Court Air Rider introduced its new Airider vacuum cleaner, a wheel-less and floating floor care appliance.
According to the company, the Airider features bag-less technology and is virtually weightless as it floats on a cushion of air across all carpets and hard floor surfaces, eliminating wear and tear on carpets and flooring. Made of ABS plastic, the company says the vacuum is durable and compact.
Featuring a 1,500-W high-speed fan motor, the vacuum can reportedly create over 200 mph high velocity airflow for maximum suction at the base of the machine. Installed with a thermal cut off to protect the motor from overheating, the Airider also features a patented stretch hose that can increase reach by three times it's own length and a 19-ft retractable cord. A filtration system is said to remove contaminants by travelling through the system and dirt can be emptied from the transparent dust container with an front clip release.
The Airider has been in development since 1997 when the first prototype was created in Orillia, Ontario Canada. The machine was then brought to Glasgow in January 2001 and the Airider is under production in Scarborough, England. The company's head office is based in Glasgow, Scotland.
"Following a lengthy research and development process, we're really looking forward to getting the Airider out into the world wide marketplace," Chantal Dugdale, vice president of Sales and Marketing, Air Rider Systems Ltd., said. "When we first set out, our ultimate goal was to create a product which offered all the benefits and features of high specification and price-point vacuum cleaners plus more, at an affordable price. We then moved forward to another level to provide the world with a 'weightless' hovering vacuum cleaner with superior performance, filtration, and design at a highly competitive mass market price.”
The Airider is expected to go on sale via the Internet and the QVC television-shopping channel before the end of December 2004 priced between £199 and £249 (approx. U.S. $360 to $450).
