More layoffs are in the works for Maytag, but this time, it's at the company's Amana Refrigeration plant in Iowa, U.S.

The Newton-based appliance maker says some production workers are facing layoffs. Spokeswoman Lynne Dragomier says it's a seasonal adjustment in production schedules.

Word of the layoffs comes less than a week after union workers approved a new 3-year contract.

Ms. Dragomier says Maytag is offering workers the opportunity to sign up for voluntary layoffs, hoping to reduce or eliminate the need for any forced layoffs.

Maytag hasn't said how many positions will be affected. The Amana plant has about 2,300 union workers. (AP)
