Italian white goods maker Merloni has tapped its North Wales, UK tumble dryer production facility at Yate near Bristol, as its worldwide center of excellence for tumble dryer production.
The company opened a BPD 15 million (approx.US $26.9 million) production line for the manufacture of tumble dryers that is reported to lift output at the site to 1.2 million units a year.
Plastics molding is said to be a key component in the investment, with 20 Sandretto machines being employed to mould major parts. The function will be carried out by a third-party moulder working on the site and supplying on a through-the-wall basis.
Operating under such names as Indesit and Cannon as well as Hotpoint, Merloni employs 6,000 people in the UK at Peterborough, Blythe Bridge in Straffordshire, and Yate and Kinmel Park in North Wales. As of Jan. 5, 2005, Merloni’s name will change officially to Indesit.(Plastics & Rubber Weekly)
