Shenzhen, China-based Gree Electric Appliances Inc. said it has become the world's largest air-conditioner producer.

The company currently has an annual production capacity of 10 million units, following the completion of its fifth-phase expansion project in Zhuhai recently.

The expansion project at the company's head office included four main workshops involving a total investment of 180 million yuan (approx. U.S. $21.7 million), as well as an input of more than 100 million yuan (approx. $12.1 million) in new equipment.

Currently, the company's head office has five general assembly plants and 14 supporting factories with nearly 15,000 staff members. (XIC)
