Habitat for Humanity International announced that appliance maker Whirlpool Corp. (Benton Harbor, MI, U.S.) has surpassed the 50,000 milestone in appliance donations to its organization.

Since 1999, the appliance maker has committed to donate a refrigerator and range to every Habitat home built in North America, reportedly providing more than 26,000 families with the two appliances. In addition to donating appliances, Whirlpool employees have volunteer throughout the years to build Habitat homes in their communities.

"The true sign of a great partnership is one that grows and gets stronger with time, and that's exactly what has taken place between Whirlpool Corporation and Habitat for Humanity(R) International," said Jeff Fettig, chair, president, and CEO of Whirlpool Corp. "Donating an ENERGY STAR(R)-qualified refrigerator and range to Habitat families is the foundation of our partnership. As we continue to build a stronger relationship with Habitat for Humanity, celebrating the milestone of 50,000 donated appliances is very special to our employees, our customers, and all our partners in Habitat."

Whirlpool announced earlier this year it is expanding its partnership with Habitat for Humanity International. In March 2004, Whirlpool announced plans to support Habitat's work throughout Europe, Central Asia, and South Africa with product and financial donations.

The company celebrated the 50,000- donation milestone Sept. 18 in Seattle, WA, U.S., where Whirlpool teamed up with Rotary International and Chateau St. Michelle Winery to break ground on the 100th Habitat home built in Seattle. Whirlpool, Rotary International, and Chateau St. Michelle have all joined forces to assist financially and physically in building Habitat homes in Seattle and surrounding areas.
