TCL to Build New Air-Conditioner Industrial Park Sep 17, 2004

TCL Group held a ceremony on Sept. 15 in Wuhan for the construction of an air-conditioner industrial park in the central Chinese city.

The park will involve an investment of more than 100 million yuan (approx. U.S. $12 million) and is scheduled for completion by February 2005. Production capacity at the plant is expected to total 3 million units annually.

The new plant, combined with the expansion of TCL's facility in Zhongshan, south China, brings the manufacturer's total annual air-conditioner production capacity to 5 million units, making it one of China's top three air-conditioner makers.

TCL entered the air-conditioner field just 4 years ago. In the 2004 "freeze" year, it posted air-conditioner sales topping 1.5 million units, up 160 percent year on year, twice as fast as the industrial average. (XIC)
