The Home Depot(R) has opened its first home improvement store in Manhattan, NY, U.S.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Bob Nardelli, the retailer's chairman, president, and CEO, were a part of a board-cutting ceremony that marked the opening of the new store.
"Our new Manhattan location is a retail marvel and proof positive that The Home Depot continues to break the mold in how we approach new formats, new markets, and new customers," Mr. Nardelli said in a statement. "Since 2001, The Home Depot has invested nearly $14 billion in new store construction, modernization, and technology to bring distinction, innovation, and convenience to consumers. We look forward to serving this new community and making it easy and affordable for Manhattan residents to express their unique style at home."
The 105,000-sq-ft, multi-level store will reportedly offer a range of products, daily how-to clinics, same-day delivery, and a full-time concierge. The retailer said the store was based on extensive research and was customized to fit the needs and interests of Manhattan residents. Customers will find nine paint-mixing stations, a broad selection of decorative cabinet hardware, and high-end appliances like GE Monogram(R). In addition, a specialized showroom will help customers visualize complete home improvement projects, the retailer said.
The Home Depot currently operates 14 stores with approximately 3,900 associates in the New York boroughs and plans to open an additional Manhattan store in the Midtown area later this year.
