Sony Releases New Slim Digital Camera Aug 30, 2004

Sony introduced its new 5.1 megapixel Cyber-shot(R) DSC-T3 digital camera, a pocket-size model measuring less than 3/4-in.

Equipped with Sony's Real Imaging Processor(TM) circuit, the new model is said to produce up to four full-resolution images at three frames per sec. The T3 camera incorporates a built-in, electrically operated lens cover that opens when the camera is activated.

According to the company, the camera features a 2 1/2-in LCD viewfinder and a Transflective Clear Photo LCD(TM) that is said to improve the quality of image display by preventing reflected light from interfering with it. Moreover, the new LCD's higher contrast, brightness, and resolution levels are said to ensure more accurate color reproduction.

Featuring a 0-4X SmartZoom (at VGA resolution), Sony says the camera allows the user to focus in on an area of interest by cropping the image size while avoiding image degradation. With optional Memory Stick PRO Duo(TM) cards, the camera captures and plays back high resolution moving images. According to the company, the camera's MPEG-VX Fine mode allows users to record MPEG video with 640 by 480 pixel resolution at 30 frames per sec, up to the capacity of the memory media card being used.

Sony says the camera also comes with a Cyber-shot Station USB cradle for playing back slideshows on a TV or transferring images to a PC while charging the camera's batteries. The new camera will be available in October 2004 for approximately U.S. $500.
