Electrolux India to Expand Product Offerings Aug 26, 2004

Appliance maker Electrolux is focusing on consolidating its Indian operations by realigning the company's distribution network with its product line, which sells refrigerators, washing machines, air-conditioners, and microwaves in India.

The company says it has achieved a 30 percent year-on-year growth against the industry average of 5 to 10 percent.

Electrolux says it is developing products that are tailored to specific requirements of user-segments. "We have developed refrigerators that cater to the rural industry by combating shortage of power and voltage fluctuations," Ajay Kapila, head of marketing for Electrolux India, said.

The company says it plans to have 250 exclusive air-conditioner outlets, 100 outlets for washing machines, and 50 outlets for microwave ovens. It says it has decided to set up dealer showrooms called Electrolux Homes.

In the first phase, the company plans to set up 25 showrooms by the end of 2004 in Delhi, which would be supported by 250 after-sales service centers.

The company also says its Swedish parent is also looking at India as an attractive outsourcing destination. (The Telegraph)
