Gorenje, a Slovenian home appliance maker, is looking to launch production in Serbia, in what would be the company's first household appliance plant outside Slovenia.
Gorenje is said to be bidding for a 99-year lease of industrial land in the city of Valjevo, a report from the Serbia-Montenegro news agency Tanjug says.
The commission overseeing the tender for the land is said to have accepted Gorenje's bid while the city council of Valjevo needs to confirm it. Tanjug meanwhile reported that Gorenje's joint venture company, Gorenje-Valjevo, intends to build a 17,000 sq-m white goods plant on the land and then build storage facilities and a showroom afterwards.
The Gorenje is reportedly one of Slovenia's largest exporters and is a popular brand among Serbian consumers. (Slovenia Business Week)
