American Standard Elects Lexmark Chairman and CEO to Board Aug 20, 2004

Air-conditioning and plumbing products manufacturer American Standard Companies Inc. announced that Paul J. Curlander, chairman and CEO of Lexmark International, Inc., has been elected to the company's board of directors.

Mr. Curlander has been with Lexmark since its formation in 1991. He was appointed chairman in 1999 after being named CEO in 1998. Before Lexmark, he spent 17 years with IBM in various product development and management positions.

Mr. Curlander has a master's degree and a doctorate in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado.

"Paul's broad business experience, engineering background, and technical expertise are valuable to our business, and will further enhance the diverse experiences and perspective of our board," said Fred Poses, chairman and CEO of American Standard Companies.
