India-based appliance maker Pensonic Holdings Bhd said that it expects its new assembly plant in Bukit Minyak Industrial Estate to be completed next month and to begin operations in October.
According to the company, the plant will be equipped with three production lines that will assemble washing machines and fans, which were previously outsourced to local contractors and to China.
"We will also transfer all the bulky product assembly work currently being carried out in Bukit Tengah Industrial Park to the new plant. This will enable the existing plant to focus on assembling small home appliances," Nelson Chew, group marketing manager, said.
Mr. Chew said the new plant was a necessity as the group was already fully utilizing the production capacity of the Bukit Tengah plant.
The company said it is targeting to produce 1.5 million fans and 50,000 washing machines annually at the new plant. Located on a 3-acre site and with a factory area of 83,000-sq-ft, the new plant, if fully utilized, can produce up to 2 million fans and 70,000 washing machines a year. (India StarBiz)
