HomMed Announces Unit Shipment Jump in First Half Aug 3, 2004

Medical appliance maker HomMed LLC (Brookfield, WI, U.S.) announced that unit shipments of its telehealth products increased by 51 percent over the comparable period in 2003.

The company's in-home telemonitoring devices collect vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, body weight, and temperature on a daily basis. The data is transmitted via digital wireless technology or traditional phone lines over a virtual private network (VPN) for review by clinicians at a local Health Care Agency or hospital. According to the company, daily vital sign readings can help health care professionals detect and address even the slightest abnormalities before they become serious, preventing ER visits and hospitalizations.

"Telehealth is proving its value to home care and managed care in improving patient outcomes and significantly reducing costs," Herschel "Buzz" Peddicord, president and CEO of HomMed, said in a statement. "HomMed's practical solutions to complex healthcare issues are driving strong growth in new customers and re-orders from our existing clients."
