The Canadian Appliance Manufacturers Association's (CAMA) on Thursday reported a solid start to 2003 for the major appliance industry, with refrigerators, ranges, washers, dryers, dishwashers, cooktops, and microwave ovens reporting total first quarter units sales of 973,259. Gas appliance sales were particularly strong in the first quarter, up a combined 8.7 percent over the first quarter of 2002, with 18,916 units sold. CAMA also reported that its members forecast gas ranges and gas dryers unit sales to total 81,000 units in 2003.
