Simplicity Manufacturing Recalls Lawn Tractors and Riding Mowers Jul 22, 2004

In voluntary cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Simplicity Manufacturing Inc. of Port Washington, WI, U.S. has recalled 5,900 lawn tractors and riding mowers.

Although no injuries have been reported, consumers were advised to stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. A safety switch under the seat of these lawn tractors and riding mowers is designed to stop the mower blade turning within 5 sec of the operator leaving the tractor seat; however, the recalled mowers' blades can continue to turn longer than 5 sec after the operator leaves the seat, posing a laceration and amputation hazard.

The recalled lawn tractors and riding mowers, designed for residential use, were sold under the Simplicity, AGCO, and Massey Fergusonbrand names.

The recalled units were manufactured in the U.S. and were sold at independent lawn mower dealers nationwide from June 2003 through May 2004 for between U.S. $2,000 and $3,750.
