Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co., which operates its mother brand Godrej for home appliances, has won a court case against Whirlpool India.
The case regarded advertisements of the Indian arm of the U.S.-based white goods maker, Whirlpool Indian, which Godrej alleged portrayed the company in a negative manner. Godrej had filed for Rs 50 crore (approx. U.S. $10.8 million) as damages for the same.
The case was settled with the Mumbai High Court directing Whirlpool to stop telecast of one of its television commercial for single-door, frost-free refrigerators on all television channels.
Godrej said that in the spirit of the settlement it has withdrawn its claims for the damage.
The Indian High Court has directed Whirlpool India to modify the TV commercial. This has reportedly been done and has been approved by Godrej. (Economic Times)
