Exports of digital appliances continued to increase in May according to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy. South Korean exports of digital appliances rose 46.8 percent year-on-year to U.S. $8.24 billion in June, surpassing the $8 billion mark for four consecutive months since March 2003.
Exports of flat display panel and sensor increased to 132.6 percent to $100 million while exports of projection TVs increased to 81.2 percent to $58 million, while printed circuit boards (PCB) increased 76.9 percent to $115 million.
According to the report, imports of digital appliances rose 28.8 percent to $4.39 million in June, leaving the trade surplus of $3.85 billion last month. In particular, during the first half of the year, the trade surplus for the digital appliances sector recorded $22.13 billion, or $6.62 billion more than the nationâ€™s total trade surplus of $15.51 billion during the same period.
Strong shipment of digital appliances was attributed to robust growth of China and economic recovery in the European Union and the U.S. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said that current strong export trend is expected to continue on the back of global economic recovery.
