Hitachi Introduces New Cordless Driver Drills Jul 2, 2004

Hitachi Power Tools launched two additions to its cordless drill series—the Hitachi DS18DMR and DS14DMR.

The DS18DMR is a 18-V cordless driver drill that reportedly delivers 550 in/lbs of torque. It comes with two 3.0Ah batteries that are said to help ensure longer run time between charges. The DS14DMR is a 14-V cordless driver drill that reportedly delivers 450 in/lbs of torque and comes with two 2.0Ah batteries. Both offer 2-speed transmissions that feature no-load RPMs of 0-400/1,600.

The drills are said to be among the most compact and lightweight in their class measuring just over 9 in and weighing approximately 5 lbs. Designed for professionals, the drills feature a two-piece rare-earth magnet motor said to provide reliable power. The drills also feature replaceable armatures and externally accessible carbon brushes.

Both drills are engineered with Rohm chucks that are said to help reduce bit slippage and improve durability. A 22-stage ratcheting slip-clutch is incorporated for high torque and precision driving applications and the DS18DMR and DS14DMR feature Hitachi's patented 5-position belt hook with an integrated LED work light to illuminate dark workspaces.

The Hitachi DS18DMR and DS14DRM cordless drills are packaged in an injection molded plastic carrying cases that include a quick charger, two batteries, side handle attachment, and driver bit.
