Logitech, a manufacturer of computer peripherals, announced it has been awarded two 2004 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
The Logitech(R) KeyCase Keyboard, a PDA QWERTY keyboard that doubles as a protective cover, was named a Gold winner in the computer equipment category, while the Logitech(R) diNovo(TM) Media Desktop(TM), a combination keyboard, mouse and multifunction MediaPad(TM), received a Silver award in the same category.
The winners were announced in the July 5 issue of BusinessWeek. Logitech has now won eight IDEA awards in the past 2 years. "We're thrilled that IDSA has honored our products," said Guerrino De Luca, president and CEO of Logitech. "Emphasis on product design is a defining characteristic of the Logitech culture and brand. These awards certainly help validate our team's hard work and focus in that area."
Designed by IDEO, of Mountain View, CA, U.S., and Ireland-based Design Partners, the Logitech KeyCase Keyboard is part productivity device, part protective casing. It's made of a reportedly durable, lightweight, and spill-proof fabric that is said to be easy to transport and use in any environment with a PDA. The flexible fabric, made by United Kingdom-based ElekSen, has the ability to sense applied pressure or keystrokes, and then send signals through its conductive fibers.
Designed by Ireland-based Design Partners, the Logitech diNovo Media Desktop wireless mouse docks into a recharging cradle that also serves as a desktop PC hub for Bluetooth(R) wireless devices. A standalone number pad has a dual function, also serving as a media remote, equipped with a LCD screen.
