Whirlpool, Ispat Inland Reach Agreement Jun 18, 2004

Benton, Harbor, MI, U.S.-based Whirlpool Corporation and steel supplier Ispat Inland Inc. jointly announced that they have reached a confidential agreement in regards to recent legal actions the appliance maker took against Ispat. The agreement pauses the litigation involving the two companies for 45 days while Whirlpool's steel supply is secured and allowing the temporary restraining order against Ispat to be dissolved.

Back in late May, Whirlpool issued a temporary restraining order against Ispat that required the supplier to continue providing steel to the appliance maker under the terms of a supply agreement between the two companies. Whirlpool maintained that terms of the agreement obligated Ispat to supply its requirements for specific types of steel used in the manufacture of clothes washers, dryers, and dishwashers in the U.S.
