Samsung Electronics Co. has said that it will establish a display research center in Russia, seeking to utilize the country¹s advanced military technologies in its development of next-generation televisions, the newspaper Yonhap reported. Russia was selected as the site of the center due to its strong competitive edges in military technologies, chemistry, physics, and other basic sciences, company officials said.
Samsung¹s Russian R&D center, which is set to open in June 2004, will be responsible for the development of the electronics giant¹s next-generation TV models that would succeed its plasma display panel (PDP) and liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs, the officials said. Russia is known to have already developed advanced technologies in optics through the application of its state-of-the-art military technologies.
