Rheem Manufacturing Company, Air Conditioning Division introduced a new Rheem Classic(R) and Ruud Achiever(R) Dedicated Horizontal Package Unit designed to meet the needs of HVAC contractors serving the residential retrofit, rooftop, and/or manufactured housing markets.

Developed with contractor input, the reportedly energy efficient unit is features zero clearance installation (flush-mount) capacity, a two-sided coil for improved efficiency, and a blower for maximum airflow.

The new Rheem Classic(R) and Ruud Achiever(R) Dedicated Horizontal Package Unit is available in both heat pump and cooling models and is available in both 10 and 12 SEER models with sizes ranging from 2 to 5 tons. According to the company, all models are equipped with a indoor motor and blower system that achieves 400 cfm per ton up to a maximum of 0.8 in of static pressure, which is said to eliminate air distribution problems caused by high static and pushing air through a smaller sized duct system over long distances.

Using a 33- by 59-in footprint, the Rheem Dedicated Residential Horizontal Package unit features a high-quality Copeland(R) Scroll Compressor to reportedly minimize sound and provide long service life. Other features include forkable base rails, which allow for separation between the unit base and the ground level; a removable drain pan; easily accessible evaporator coil and indoor blower assembly; high-static airflow performance; optional louvered coil protection and factory/field-installed electric heat.

"This contractor assisted design makes service and installation much easier," said Erich Bauman, product manager for Rheem and Ruud. "The four service panels provide technicians with fast access to all internal components. The wiring connections were easily accessed and provide ample room to maneuver. Also, there’s a durable steel cabinet that protects the coils while allowing a the unit to be installed with a flush fit against the home."
