Small household appliances used in Chinese kitchens generated 12.53 billion yuan (approx. U.S. $1.5 billion) in sales in the region last year, 32-percent higher than in the 2002, according to a report released by CCID, a think tank for the Ministry of Information Industry.
The report defines kitchen appliances as microwave ovens, magnetic ovens, range-hoods, and sterilization cupboards.
Sales volume of microwave ovens increased just 3.7 percent in 2003, down from 44.8 percent in 2002; revenue continued to shrink, although at a slower pace.
Magnetic ovens reported remarkable increase in both sales and revenue, while range-hoods market hardly changed.
Due to the outbreak of SARS epidemic and bird flu, sales and revenue of sterilization cupboards more than doubled in 2003. (XIC)
