Two-thirds of the consumers living in the three biggest of the 10 new European Union (EU) member states have an experience of buying South Korean products, a poll showed.
In a survey of 223 consumers in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, 65 percent said they have bought Korean products in the past.
Of those familiar with Korean products, 54 percent said they purchased electronics goods and appliances, followed by information technology gear (13 percent), cars (9 percent), and textiles (9 percent).
When asked about their motive for choosing Korean products, half of the respondents cited price, with another 45 percent pointing to quality and design. More than 60 percent expressed satisfaction with Korean products.
The three countries, which joined the EU on May 1, along with Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Slovakia, and Slovenia, are the biggest markets among the new EU member states.
Also, 68 percent of the respondents said they have heard of fewer than five Korean brands, while 20 percent said they can recognize more than six Korean brands.
The respondents gave an overall score of 68.8 to Korean products, if that of German products is set at 100. Japanese products garnered a score of 91.1, the agency said. (Yonhap)
