ASHRAE Names 15 New Distinguished Lecturers

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has named 15 new distinguished lecturers.

ASHRAE says its Distinguished Lecturers Program provides its chapters with noted authorities who provide insight and speak on relevant topics that impact the HVAC/R industry.

The new lecturers and the topics on which they will speak are the following:

  • Michael C. Connor, P.E., Connor Engineering Solutions LLC, Alpharetta, GA, U.S.—"The Technical and Legal Aspects of Design/Build."

  • Manuel Del Valle, P.E., Fluor, Greenville, SC, U.S.—"Cleanrooms for Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology Facilities; ISO 14664, and Its Relation to USA" and "European Commission Good Manufacturing Practices for Aseptic Processing Facilities; HVAC Systems for Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology Facilities; Biotechnology Facility Case Study—Biotechnology Pilot Plant; Airlocks for Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology Facilities; and Air Handling Units for Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology Facilities."

  • Mark Diamond, Esq., Diamond and Diamond LLC, Stamford, CT, U.S.—"How to Avoid Being Sued for Indoor Pollution, What to Do If You Are Sued and How to Win at Mediation and Arbitration."

  • Forrest B. Fencl, Ultraviolet Devices Inc., Huntington Beach, CA, U.S.—"UVC Technology for System Capacity, Maintenance and Indoor Air Quality and Infectious Agents, Bioterrorism, Air-Conditioning Systems, and UVC."

  • Christopher McDonald, Esq., Shook Hardy and Bacon LLP, Kansas City, MO, U.S.—"Indoor Air Quality and Mold: Legal Issues and Liability Concerns for Engineers and Related Industry Professionals and Document Management and Discovery - How Documents and Emails are Used in Litigation."

  • Max Sherman, Ph.D., Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Berkeley, CA, U.S.—"62.2: ASHRAE's Residential Ventilation Standard; The Dark Side of ASHRAE: What is It and Why is It Changing?; Ventilation: The Once and Future King; and Dr. Duct Tape."

  • Lawrence Spielvogel, P.E., consulting engineer, King of Prussia, PA, U.S.—"Overview of ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1 and Reasoned Responses to Threats."

  • Jan Sundell, Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, Denmark—"The History of Ventilation and Health; Ventilation and Health; Dampness in Buildings and Health; Indoor Air Quality and Health; and Indoor Air Humidity, Health and Comfort."

  • Branislav Todorovic, Ph.D., University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia—"Building Envelope as the Main Factor of Energy Needs; Double Facades: Their Influence on Heating and Cooling Loads; Energy Situation in European Countries in Transition; Air-Conditioning of Railroad Coaches; and Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration History."

  • Richard Tomlinson, R.N., Alabaster, AL, U.S.—"B. Anthracis: Etiology, Pathology and Its Impact on Engineering Infrastructure."

    The new lecturers will serve a 2-year term. There are 41 Distinguished Lecturers for 2004-05, which is the largest group ever. ASHRAE has had a total of 65 lecturers since the program started in 1996-97.
