Italian appliance maker Merloni Elettrodomestici announced that it will be entering the North American marketplace in May under its premium Ariston brand of built-in appliances.
The company said a distribution network is nearly 100 percent in place and that it will begin sales with a line of 19 Ariston dishwashers and a laundry program, which will include a washer, dryer, and combination unit.
"The Ariston brand brings Italian style with top-quality European performance for the first time to the North American built-in marketplace and with an exceptional benefit to cost ratio," said Andrea Sasso, chief commercial officer.
The Ariston brand was developed in 1960 under Industrie Merloni company and became an export brand in 1975, when Merloni Elettrodomestici was founded. It is said to be one of the first brands to launch digital products, some of which have Internet capabilities.
Merloni Elettrodomestici is a market leader in Italy and has had growing success in the greater European market over the last few years. It currently has 21 subsidiaries, 20,000 employees, and 17 production facilities. The company reports an annual turn over of 3 billion euros.
