General Electric (GE) has announced it would create up to 350 jobs at its gas turbine plant in Greenville, S.C., U.S. with a new technology team and an additional manufacturing line for the aviation industry. (Associated Press)

The company said it would invest $120 million in its Gas Turbines Technology Center, where a new engineering team will focus on power generation and services.

"These new products will include hundreds of power generation equipment services and several new gas and steam turbine products," said Vic Abate, GE Energy vice president for Power Generation Technology.

GE Transportation, another one of GE's major business units, will start to produce turbine airfoil blades for aircraft. The extra production with the company's operation in Madisonville, KY, US., will help meet customer demands, officials said.

GE has dealt with a tumultuous market since it launched its turbine plant here in 2000. In 2002, GE cut 1,000 jobs in Greenville, and this past October announced another 600 job cuts. Later it reversed 400 job cuts, citing increases in its turbine service business and the potential for new turbine orders from China.
