U.S.-based computer maker Dell says that that is has shipped a worldwide industry record number of PCs for the first quarter of 2004, according to the company's quarterly results that have been released by industry analyst firm IDC.
According to IDC, Dell shipped 7.68 million units in the first quarter, up 1.7 million units from the year-ago quarter. This represents Dell's sixth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth of more than 1 million units. Dell's lead over its nearest competitor is now 1.27 million units.
Dell recently announced that it anticipates fiscal first-quarter sales to reach U.S. $11.4 billion, $200 million higher than the company's previous guidance, and 20 percent better than the same quarter 1 year ago. Dell continues to expect earnings per share of $0.28, up 22 percent year-over-year
