Computer maker Apple Computer Inc. announced that it cut the price on one of its entry-level Macintosh computers by U.S. $100 to $999 and upgraded the microprocessors and other components on the eMac line.

Apple's eMac desktop computers are targeted at homes and schools and now sell for $799, as before, and $999, down from$1,099, the company said.

Cupertino, CA, U.S.-based Apple has only a few percentage points of market share of the personal computer market but is well-known because of its high-style designs and most recently for its digital music players.

Apple said that both the $799 and $999 computers have 1.25 gigabyte, or 1.25 billion byte, G4 microprocessors -- an increase from the 1 gigabyte processors they had before. (Reuters)
