Sharp Laboratories of America (Camas, WA, U.S.) has launched a new business development initiative called Sharp Technology Ventures.
By pursuing opportunities for the technologies developed in Sharp Laboratories of America, Sharp Technology Ventures says it will help the company realize the potential for its intellectual property that has implications beyond the scope of Sharp's primary business strategy, and that can benefit consumers worldwide.
From the Sharp Laboratories headquarters, Sharp Technology Ventures will pursue business development opportunities, including joint development, licensing, and spinouts for select Sharp technologies. The development team will work closely with technology partners, including OEMs, software, and hardware technology companies, government agencies, venture firms, and others.
Jon Clemens, Ph.D., who recently retired as CEO and president of Sharp Laboratories of America, will lead Sharp Technology Ventures. Mr. Clemens founded Sharp Labs and has served in executive roles with other premier R&D labs such as Sarnoff Corporation, SRI International, and RCA.
"In the course of its extensive R&D efforts, Sharp Corporation and its subsidiary Sharp Laboratories of America have invented a number of breakthrough technologies that are ideally suited to the North American marketplace," Mr. Clemens said. "With a business development initiative like Sharp Technology Ventures, we have the ability to leverage these technologies into products developed by other organizations."
