The HomeTech tradeshow in Cologne, Germany, which took place Feb. 25-27, 2004 in Cologne, Germany and was attended by APPLIANCE, had 1,323 exhibitors from 53 countries present their products to international trade visitors on an exhibition area totaling approximately 90,000 m.

Nearly 25,000 visitors attended the international trade fair for household appliances.

According to HomeTech officials, the high-percentage of international exhibitors -- 74 percent -- is a clear indicator of HomeTech Cologne's importance for the trade in Germany and around the world.

For the first time, HomeTech was open exclusively to trade visitors. This compact concept was very popular with exhibitors and trade visitors alike, according to HomeTech officials.

Industry and trade use HomeTech Cologne as a bi-annual venue for exhibiting to the global market. The suppliers themselves report that they profit from the fair's highly international character and the high percentage of visitors in attendance who are responsible for decision-making in purchasing -- more than 80 percent.

At the trade fair, medium-sized companies played their role as the sector's source of new ideas. From the intelligent networking of diverse large appliances to fully automatic coffee machines and innovative product solutions in the small appliances sector to sophisticated component technology, show officials said the repertoire of improvements in terms of quality, functionality, and design is all-encompassing.

Young companies were especially successful in making a strong impression with their innovative product solutions. "At HomeTech Cologne the trade gave us very positive feedback on an innovative product," said Udo Berling, managing partner, Berbel Ablufttechnik GmbH. "HomeTech Cologne's extensive media and communications measures provided additional public awareness, and we could even feel the positive effects of those efforts on the first day of the fair."

The presentation of the AIR RIDER, the first vacuum cleaner without wheels was another such innovation that made an impact and generated sales for the company. "On the first day of the fair, we succeeded in almost doubling the number of business contacts that we had been aiming for," noted Michael J. Rooney, the inventor of the AIR RIDER and CEO of AIR RIDER Systems Ltd. "On the basis of our innovative product, the large turnout of purchasing decision makers from Germany and abroad and, not least, the media campaign conducted by HomeTech Cologne, our participation was a complete success."

Haier Network Appliances' digital interactivity for households from Haier Electrical Appliances Corp. Ltd. was another innovation that piqued the attention of tradeshow attendees and attracted a great deal of interest from the "very international trade visitors, who were largely decision-makers," Noris Ciccardi, corporate image and public relations, Haier, pointed out.

Hans-Peter Haase, President of the European Committee of Domestic Equipment
Manufacturers (CECED), said he was very pleased with the outcome of HomeTech Cologne 2004.

"The organizers of HomeTech Cologne - Koelnmesse GmbH and Messe Berlin GmbH - have pulled off an outstanding trade fair, considering that consumers are somewhat reluctant to buy, he said. "No signs of trade fair fatigue were visible. During my tour of the fair I saw a number of innovative products that will certainly also be of interest to the European trade. The fair in Cologne as a whole has created a solid foundation for HomeTech 2006 in Berlin."

HomeTech 2006 will take place in Berlin, Germany. The exposition takes place every other year and alternates between Cologne, Germany and Berlin, Germany. Messe Berlin and Koelnmesse are organizing HomeTech in a joint venture known as CBF Cologne Berlin Fairs.
