Appliance maker Blomberg (Ahlen/Westphalia, Germany) has been honored with "The Best Two-Door Refrigerator-Freezer" award for its model CT 1300A as being the most energy-efficient refrigerator/freezer in Europe, according to Mr. Gonzalo Molina-Iguartua, the Head of the Unit Demand Management of the European Union (EU) Directorate General for Transportation and Energy. The European Commission (EC) honored Blomberg at the HomeTech trade fair in Cologne, Germany, which APPLIANCE is attending.

The model's daily energy consumption is comparable to that of a 16W light bulb.

"We are very proud of this award," Blomberg Managing Director Dr. Heinz H. Fischer, "It confirms our commitment to offer high-quality products to the market which are simultaneously leading in environmental issues and in energy saving. Blomberg is focused on producing appliances with the best technology."

Apart from the "Best Two-Door Refrigerator/Freezer" award for its performance in conserving energy, the trade show jury also awarded CT 1300A with a "Special Mention" for being the "Most Efficient Energy+ Model". Energy+ list is composed of 21 leading manufacturers and 900 appliances.

Blomberg CT 1300A model, with an average annual consumption of 137 kWh, is said to consume only half of what comparable appliances with the EU label class "A" consume, 325 kWh per year. A lower-energy efficiency index indicates a more efficient appliance. While energy efficiency index of a refrigerator of class "A" ranges between 42 percent to 55 percent, Blomberg CT 1300A model’s is 19.81 percent positioning it as a refrigerator with the lowest energy-efficiency index ever attained in Europe.
