Samsung Electronics is working to strengthen its position in the Middle Eastern home appliances market with the launch of microwave ovens that come equipped with semiconductor-based sensor technology.

The new technology is specifically developed to overcome barriers of conventional humidity sensors and, thereby, help customers reduce cooking time with improved results.

Using artificial intelligence, the appliances monitor ambient gas/vapor emission in food. At the push of a button, a sensor detection device automatically checks the food condition and automatically stops after calculating the required time for the cooking process.

According to Samsung, the sensor technology will reduce cooking time but also improve the quality, as proven by cooking tests conducted by international food institutes.

Samsung will be rolling out four new models this year and has set plans to sell more than 100,000 units across the region.

"The launch of the first semiconductor-based sensor technology-equipped microwave ovens is a breakthrough for the Middle East's home appliances industry," said Mr. Keun S. Yoo, senior manager of the Home Appliance division, Samsung Gulf Electronics. "With this launch, Samsung has now developed microwave ovens that combine unique semiconductor expertise with decades of research in developing world-class digital products for the home appliances market."
