Six in Ten Canadians Own a DVD Player Feb 2, 2004

A recent Universal Studios Home Video Canada survey, commissioned in January 2004, uncovered data regarding the popularity of DVD players and corresponding films among Canadian consumers.

Key insights reveal that 64 percent of Canadians 18 to 64 years of age now own a DVD player, in contrast to a similar survey completed in June 2003 that indicated only 52 percent of Canadians owned the technology.

The survey, says Universal Studios, reveals that Canadian buy-in to this new format has been rapid, as 28 percent of DVD player owners indicated having purchased their equipment in only the past 6 months. With one in three Canadian DVD player owners having purchased their hardware in such a short time span, further statistics uncovered in the survey confirm that the sales of corresponding DVD film titles continues to grow.

The survey results also show that owners now include a large population of females between the ages of 35 to 49 years old.
