The Prime Ministers of Hungary and Sweden have honored Swedish appliance maker Electrolux Group for its recent investment in Hungary and its contribution to the relations between the Hungary and Sweden.

At a press conference held last week in Budapest, Göran Persson, Prime Minister of Sweden, and Péter Medgyessy, Prime Minister of Hungary, presented Hans Stråberg, CEO of the Electrolux Group, with a certificate of recognition.

"I feel honored by this acknowledgment," said Mr. Stråberg. "Electrolux has been very satisfied with its activities in Hungary since we began production there in 1991. I am delighted to see that our continuous investments are valued, not only on a corporate level, but also as a positive contribution to the bilateral relations."

The honor came after Electrolux broke ground for a new refrigerator plant in Nyíregyháza, Hungary. Based on an investment of 65 million euros (approx. U.S. $81.8 million), the factory will create approximately 600 jobs and will produce more than half a million appliances per year.

The appliance maker already manufactures refrigerators, freezers, and vacuum cleaners in Jászberény, Hungary and is currently one of the country's fifty largest enterprises. It is also among the country's 15 largest exporters.
