After a ceremonial laying of the foundation stone, Electrolux, the world's largest producer of appliances, has started construction of its new factory in Hungary. With an anticipated annual production volume of 560,000 units, the factory will employ 600 people.
The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone was attended by Mr. Csaba László, inister of Finance; Dr. Imre Réthy, State Secretary, Ministry of Economy and Transport; Dr. János Veres, State Secretary, Ministry of Finance; Mrs. László Csabai, the Mayor of NyÃregyháza. Elextrolux executives in attendence were Hans StrÃ¥berg, Electrolux AB President and CEO; Mr. Wolfgang König, CEO of Electrolux Home Products Europe, and Mr János Takács, Managing Director of Electrolux Lehel Kft.
According to Electrolux, the plot size of the project is 295,368 sq m, but the floor area of the factory to be constructed is 48,154 sq m.
In July, AB Electrolux's Board of Directors approved the project worth about 65 million euros. Located in NyÃregyháza, Hungary, the factory will to build a new combi bottom freezers. The new production site adds on to the Group's existing industrial base in Jászberény, where the company already produces 4 million units (refrigerators, chest-freezers and vacuum cleaners) per year.
With the new factory, Hungary will become Electrolux's largest production centre for refrigerators and freezers in Europe. Most of the appliances to be produced in the new factory will be exported to several markets, including Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and Ukraine, apart from supplying the domestic market.
