Hitachi Home Announces Washer and Dryer Defects

Hitachi Home & Life Solutions Inc., a unit of Hitachi Ltd., said it will inspect and repair free of charge a defect that could cause smoke or fires in some of its 152,916 combination washer and dryers.

In addition, the appliances, manufactured between May 2002 and March 2003, may not dry properly or may stop functioning due to defects in some of their control units, the company said in a statement.

The units possibly affected include: NW-D8BX, serial numbers 2000501-2075501, 3000001-3043988; NW-D6BX, serial numbers 2000001-2029989, 3000001-3010520; NW- D6BXAJ, 2000001-2000500, 3000001-3000550. (Dow Jones)
