Gorenje Opens Three New Facilities Jan 14, 2004

Household appliance maker Gorenje unveiled three new Slovenian facilities valued at more than 50 million euros (approx. U.S. $63.2 million).

Officially opened by Prime Minister Anton Rop, Gorenje launched a new logistics center, a plastic production facility, and a styrofoam plant. The facilities, which took 2 years to complete, are expected to employ 378 workers.

The new 50,000-sq-m center is able to house 140,000 household appliances, which is said to increase the company's daily output to 20,000 appliances. The facilities are part of efforts to make Gorenje one of the top-five European appliance producers.

According to the company, a new line of refrigerators is the main reason why it decided to construct a facility for the production of plastic. The plant's annual production is to amount to 8,400 tons of plastic. Meanwhile, the 4,750-sq-m styrofoam packaging plant has been designed in a bid to cut transport costs and improve the quality of packaging.

The Gorenje Group expects 2004 revenues to exceed the 2003 figure by 5.1 percent and amount to 849.3 million euros (approx. $1.1 billion). Net profits are expected to top 22.4 million euros (approx. $28.3 million). (Slovenia Business Week)
