LG Electronics announced that it took top honors among consumer electronics manufacturers, receiving 17 prestigious "CES 2004 Innovations" awards at the 2004 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
The industry honor coincides with the U.S. debut of LG's broad line of digital television products, including plasma and liquid crystal displays (LCDs), digital HDTV receivers, and digital recorders, the company said.
The Innovations awards are selected by a panel of industry designers, engineers, and journalists, who judge more than 750 product entries on the following criteria: user value, aesthetics, innovative design, quality, and contributions to the quality of life. Sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the Innovations Awards highlight product advancements in technology design and engineering. Winning entries are showcased at CES, Jan. 8-11, 2004.
According to LG, the awards underscore the breadth of its design and engineering capabilities, particularly in the video category, with winners ranging from plasma and LCD-based integrated high-definition television (HDTV) sets, to a rear-projection HDTV and digital HDTV set-top box with built-in digital video recorders (DVRs). It was also awarded for sleek DLP-based digital-cable-ready HDTV and a combination DVR and Blu-Ray recorder.
