The China External Trade Development Council (CETRA) has changed its name to the "Taiwan External Trade Development Council," or TAITRA, to clear up any confusion as to what is its mission and its function are.
TAITRA says it made the name change "to further enhance its image as the foremost trade promotion organization in Taiwan," according to a written announcement from the trade group.
Established in 1970, CETRA has promoted bilateral trade of Taiwan. However, with the word "China" in the name, which has been used for the past 33 years, CETRA was often misunderstood as being associated with the Mainland China, the organization says. To avoid any further misinterpretation in the future, CETRA has now been renamed.
