The Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) has announced the winners of its Ninth Annual Good Buy Awards, with two of the top three awards going to household appliances.

The Dirt Devil Extreme Power Hand Vac, a convenient cleanup tool packs with 14 V of power made the list.

The General Electric (GE) Profile Harmony Clothes Care System also received a GHI award. The washer/dryer pair is said to be the first of its kind to have communication capabilities. The appliances work by programming the color, fabric, and type of stain at the start of the wash cycle, and the washer "tells" the dryer what material is coming its way.
