Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and Seiko Epson Corp. plan to work together to raise the volume of parts and components they procure in Indonesia, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.
Three Indonesian joint ventures in which the two companies have stakes make washing machines, refrigerators, air-conditioners, televisions, printers, and other products. Following a meeting with local suppliers, the joint venture companies said they would be open to using more parts from Indonesian companies.
Matsushita and Seiko Epson plan to disclose lists to foreign and domestic suppliers that detail the parts and materials their Indonesian factories purchase from other countries. The companies hope this will make it easier to develop new relationships with local companies that might be able to supply the same goods. (Dow Jones)
