ASME and SEM Form Project Team Dec 29, 2003

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM), formerly the Society for Experimental Stress Analysis, have formed a project team to explore ways of fostering closer cooperative efforts between the two organization.

The project team, comprising representatives from each organization, will jointly develop a cooperative agreement that will create opportunities of mutual interest to both organizations. Activities may include annual conferences, publications, and continuing professional development opportunities, among other activities and services.

"Working together in areas of mutual interest may enable SEM to continue building upon the strengths that we all value," Dr. Randall J. Allemang, SEM President, said in a written statement.

ASME President Vachon also agreed that a cooperation between the two organizations "should be able to provide new knowledge and community opportunities for all our members and customers through this cooperative venture."

The final evaluation and recommendations by the project team will be presented to each organization in the spring of 2004.
