Planar Systems, Inc., the ninth-largest flat-panel display provider in the U.S., is expanding its award-winning PL line of LCD monitors with new 17-, 19- and 20-in monitors, which according to the company, incorporate visual performance and features to better suit corporate IT buyers and business people.

The 17-in PL1700 (without TrueMedia speakers) and PL1700M feature 16-millisecond response time and 450:1 contrast ratio for bright image quality. The PL1910M includes analog and digital (DVI-D) inputs to work with a variety of computer systems, with a 700:1 contrast ratio for color handling. The 20-in PL2010M offers UXGA resolution, a 600:1 contrast ratio, and a 25-millisecond response time.

Planar is said to have incorporated space-saving features into the PL line, including 2W TrueMedia(TM) speakers for multimedia and voice applications, eliminating the need for additional audio equipment. The new monitors are also Multi-Mount Ready(TM) with built-in power supplies and VESA mounting interfaces, allowing easy installation in multi-monitor configurations or mounted flush to the wall, such as in customer service and call center environments, according to the company.

"These progressive new features address specific customer needs," said Erick Petersen, vice president and general manager of Planar's Commercial Business. "We're successful because we focus on customer satisfaction, offer the industry's leading warranty and deliver innovative flat-panel products, upon which companies and end-users consistently depend."
Planar is ranked the ninth-largest vendor of LCD monitors based on unit shipments to the U.S. market, according to a third quarter 2003 report from iSuppli/Stanford Resources, a market research firm.

"LCD monitor sales in the U.S. have grown from 1.4 million units sold in 2000, to a projected 17 million units in 2003," said Samantha Nebrich, market research analyst at iSuppli/Stanford Resources. "Planar has quickly emerged as a leading vendor in the growing LCD desktop monitor market."
