China's color television market showed clear signs of recovery in the third quarter and sold 42.9 percent more TV sets than in the second quarter, according to CCID, a consulting firm affiliated to the Ministry of Information Industry.
A total of 8.93 million color TVs were sold in the third quarter, totaling 17.4 billion yuan (U.S. $2.1 billion) of sales income.
Digital and high-definition CRT television sold quite well in the third quarter, while the traditional line-by-line scanning television became less popular.
The sales of LCD television increased by 137.6 percent in July-Sept. and surpassed that of PDP television for the first time.
LCD televisions have been driven by small-sized products, while the PDP models retained its dominance in large-screen precuts. Rear-projection TV kept a steady increase of 45 percent.
Color TV sales in the fourth quarter are expected to hit 9.95 million sets, an increase of 11.14 percent from that in the third quarter, CCID said. Sales income is forecast to hit 2.05 billion yuan, up 11.78 percent. (Asia Pulse, XIC)
