LG Philips LCD Co. Ltd. announced a licensing agreement with Fergason Patent Properties (Menlo Park, CA, U.S.), which released certain rights to U.S. patent 5,717,422 to LG Philips LCD
The patent deals with a system synchronized brightness control (SSBC) technology that reportedly improves the video image quality of LCD displays through the synchronous modulation of backlight brightness and other system parameters.
"We are very pleased that LG Philips LCD has endorsed the SSBC technology and joined Matsushita Electric (Panasonic brand) as a licensee," James Fergason, chairman of Fergason commented. "We look forward to a further round of innovation on the SSBC theme that will result in improving the competitiveness of LCD TVs."
